Sendmail and mail fails for non-root user with error

Issue

  • Sendmail fails for not root user
  • Command:
mail someuser@example.com
  • Gives this Error
WARNING: runasuser for testuser ignored, (egid=0, want=51) can not write to queue directory /var/spool/clientmqueue/ (RunAsGid=0, required=51): Permission denied
  • ls -l /usr/sbin/sendmail.sendmail shows
rwxr-sr-x  1 root root 757168 Apr 15  2008 /usr/sbin/sendmail.sendmail

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 8)
  • sendmail-8.13.1-3.3.el4
