nscd returns incorrect values for hostnames from ldap on RHEL

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • On the first nscd query, the IP address comes back in what looks like a IPv6 format (but incorrect).  The second query returns a IPv4 address.  On the client (and the LDAP server) IPv6 is disabled.
  • With nscd off, it works every time
  • This is causing some strange behavior, like scripts returning Memory Faults, etc.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 4.8, and 5.3
