Data logical volumes coming up as Not Available during boot

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Data logical volumes coming up as Not Available during boot resulting in file systems not being able to mount, have to comment out the mounts in /etc/fstab prior to a boot otherwise the server boots into emergency mode.

  • During boot process only following 3 lvm voluems are getting activated, while the /etc/fstab file has entry for total 7 local lvm volumes. All these lvm voluems are present on same partition on local disk, still activation of some of the lvm volume failes.

  • Following 3 lvm volumes are activated, mounted during boot process without any issues:
        /dev/vg_system/rootvol
        /dev/vg_system/swapvol
        /dev/vg_system/usrvol
  • But following 5 lvm volumes on same partition does not get activated during boot and this fails the boot process:
        /dev/vg_system/homevol
        /dev/vg_system/optvol
        /dev/vg_system/tmpvol
        /dev/vg_system/varvol
