Issue

  • Cannot change MTU after update to version RHEL 6.8 on Hyper-V
  • After update RHEL from version 6.7 (kernel-2.6.32.573) to version 6.8 (kernel-2.6.32.642) we can't change MTU for specific network interface:
ip link set eth0 mtu 1380
RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument

ifconfig eth0 mtu 1380 up
SIOCSIFMTU: Invalid argument

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.8 (kernel-2.6.32.642)
  • Microsoft Hyper-V Virtualization
  • Paravirtualized network interface using netvsc driver
