Why is access to my Veritas VXFS filesystems is hanging on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5?

  • Access to external storage hanging with vxfs, although the rest of the system is still responsive.
  • Processes trying to access filesystems is in "D" state
  • LS in the filesystem hangs the terminal
  • Access to external Veritas Filesystem hanging
