Network traffic causes kernel panic on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 Xen kernel

Environment

• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 Xen kernel (2.6.18-164.el5xen). Verify with:
  # uname -a

• Generic receive offload (GRO) is active on a card that forwards data to a card with TCP segmentation offload (TSO) disabled. This situation can occur between two physical network cards, within the same network card or between real and virtual interfaces. In the example that prompted the creation of this entry, the peth0 and eth0 interfaces of the same card exhibited the problem. Verify the state of these features with this command, running once for each network interface (ethX or pethX) in the system:
  # ethtool -k (p)ethX

• If you see GRO active on a card that receives data and TSO disabled on a card that sends data, proceed to the resolution section.
