Why do I get a "Channel not found" error when exporting data from my 5.3 Satellite using the --start-date and --end-date options?

Issue

When using the --start-date and --end-date options with rhn-satellite-exporter the tool errors out with:

Error: Channel %s not found.

This is even though "rhn-satellite-exporter --list-channels" shows that
there are channels.  When the date options are not used the tool is
able to export the data, but of course not only within the desired date
ranges.

Environment

Red Hat Network Satellite 5.3.0: All platforms.
