How can I configure timeout for ldap authentication when ldap server is not reachable in RHEL5?

Issue

  • I am working on LDAP client system.
  • There are some programs which look for authentication information while running them.
  • LDAP server on the network is sometimes not reachable and it causes the programs dependent on authentication to run with delay.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • nss_ldap
  • System configured as LDAP client
