Storage path errors with EMC Powerpath on Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Environment

• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), including:
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (RHEL5)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (RHEL6)
• EMC Clariion SAN (Vendor:DGC, Model:RAID5)
  • It is currently unknown if other SAN's are affected.
• EMC Powerpath multipathing software
  • device-mapper-multipath is not affected by this issue.
  • EMC Powerpath license may or may not be installed.
• powermt display dev=all shows failover policy=BasicFailover and the mode of some paths is shown as "unlic":
