Why does "Parity errors detected in blocks: MCP SCPAD" messages appears for broadcom BCM57800 based NICs in RHEL6.7?

Issue

  • We note following messages for the broadcom NICs on the host running with RHEL6.7 release version:
 localhost kernel: bnx2x 0000:01:00.0: eth0: Parity errors detected in blocks: MCP SCPAD
 localhost kernel: bnx2x 0000:01:00.0: eth0: Parity errors detected in blocks: MCP SCPAD
 localhost kernel: bnx2x 0000:01:00.1: eth1: Parity errors detected in blocks: MCP SCPAD
 localhost kernel: bnx2x 0000:01:00.1: eth1: Parity errors detected in blocks: MCP SCPAD
  • Why does such messages gets logged for the NICs? What does it mean?
  • Is there any impact due to such errors?

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.7.
  • Kernel version: 2.6.32-573.7.1.el6.x86_64
  • Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM57800 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet cards.
  • Kernel shipped bnx2x drivers.
