Why does the RHEL6 system experience a high CPU usage with concurrent disk writes on ext4 filesystem?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Writing concurrently (around 50 concurrent writes of 100MB each) on an ext4 filesystem causes high CPU usage and other services to fail, which are trying to communicate via network and network requests are not getting fulfilled since network packets start to drop.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6
