Why am I unable to directly mount the underlying devices of a multipath device in Red Hat Enterprise Linux?

Issue

• If any underlying devices in a multipath device were directly referenced (for example in /etc/fstab) before the multipath device was created, these mounts will not work correctly after device-mapper-multipath is activated
• Once a multipath mount point is created, the the drives used to create the multipath device should not be directly accessible
