NFS hangs on certain subfolders

Issue

• On some servers such as srv01 any command hangs when I try to access a certain subfolder of an nfs4 mount.
• It does work for other folders.
• In the messages log we see

Jan 28 09:03:03 srv01 kernel: nfs: server nfs.example.com OK
Jan 28 09:03:21 srv01 kernel: nfs: server nfs.example.com not responding, still trying

• It works perfectly fine on srv02 which is setup exactly the same.
• The only difference is that srv01 has openvmware tools while srv02 which is working fine uses the default vmware tools provided by vmware.
