Intel igb NIC experiencing rx_errors, rx_length_errors, and rx_short_length_errors

Issue

  • Approximately once every 50 boots, the Intel 82576 network interface produces continuously increasing numbers of rx_errors, rx_length_errors, rx_short_length_errors during operation. The interface drops so many packets that it will not support cluster membership.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.1 and earlier
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.7 and earlier
  • Intel network interface card (NIC) using igb driver
