Unable to get new kernel entry in the grub menu at the time of booting after kernel upgrade

Issue

  • Installation of new kernel did not result in menu list entry in the grub at the time of booting while we see entry in /boot/grub/grub.conf

  • At the time of installation of new kernel, below error would be generated.

grubby fatal error: unable to find a suitable template

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • EMC powerpath devices
