Are there any supported RHEL KVM virt-manager alternatives?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6

Issue

  • Does Red Hat officially support or recommend any other open source virtualization manager for KVM besides virt-manager?

Resolution

The libvirt project, and its interfaces virt-manager and virsh, are Red Hat's chosen supported and endorsed methods for managing virtual machines on RHEL KVM hosts.

It's true that you can't access every feature of QEMU and libvirt through the virt-manager GUI, but many of these features can be controlled through virsh, or defined manually in the guest definition itself with the virsh edit <domain> command.

If there is a particular functionality you would like to add to virt-manager/virsh/libvirt, these are supported products so please contact Red Hat Global Support Services to raise a Request For Enhancement (RFE).
