With httpd mod_proxy, the following message is seen on the log "proxy: error reading status line from remote server (null)" during stress testing

Issue

• mod_proxy is configured for virtual host. During high http load, the requested page is not retrieved. At the same time, mod_proxy throws the following error's in the httpd error_log

proxy: error reading status line from remote server (null)

• This is the same as upstream bug https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=37770.
• A comment in the bug report claims that the fix is included with Apache 2.2.10
