What are the partitioning best practices for VMware VMs?
Issue
- What is recommended best practice for disk partitioning in a VM
- We currently have 1 partition for the OS, including
/usr
,/var
and/tmp
. I've got DBAs insisitng that I break these filesystems out into their own partitions, as has been done traditionally. My concern isthat there are already several virtual disk files on the VMs already; adding 3 more will increase the number of snapshots the system will have to manage during backups and upgrades. Multiple snapshots can adversely impact the VMFS filesystem. What si the recommended layout for VMware VMs?
