Unable to print due to directory permissions

Issue

  • I am unable to print. The system can see the printers and connect to them but when I send a job, i get an error: "there was a problem processing document". All of the drivers are current and up to date.
  • Error: Couldn't open file /var/spool/cups/ Permission denied.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS)
