sftp fails to transfer files >2MB, but scp has no trouble

Issue

• We have an ssh server that a custom-built application on our RHEL system is transferring files to using sftp. When the application tries to send files larger than 2 megabytes, the client appears to send a RST and the transfer fails. The same transfer succeeds when we do it manually with scp.
