RHEL 5 to RHEL 6 migration breaks gzip execution on NFSv3 mount exported from HP-UX server.

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Customer is mounting an NFSv3 export from HP-UX server.
  • After migration from RHEL5 to RHEL6, custom scripts stop working as gzip fails while compressing files in a directory located on that NFS-share
  • The failure occurs only when the owner of the file and user running GZIP have different UIDs.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • HP-UX All Versions
