Why do some applications in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 fail to ask for a new kerberos password when it has expired?

Issue

When a user's kerberos password has expired some applications now either fail to ask for a new password or do not do so in a correct manner. The below mentioned applications are the ones that have been identified as affected so far. Behaviour of each application on password expiry is as follows:
