CD-ROM IRQ timeout error messages " kernel: hda: irq timeout: status=0xd0"

Issue

  • The kernel keeps logging timeout messages to the /var/log/messages file:
 kernel: hda: irq timeout: status=0xd0 
 kernel: hda: irq timeout: error=0x00
 kernel: hda: ATAPI reset complete
 kernel: VFS: busy inodes on changed media

or

kernel: ide-cd: cmd 0x3 timed out
kernel: hda: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy }
kernel: ide: failed opcode was: unknown
kernel: hda: ATAPI reset complete

Note: the hda is a CD-ROM/DVD drive.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4 and earlier
  • HP DL380,DL580 and similar
  • CD-ROM model:TEAC DV-W28ECW, TEAC DV-28E-V, and similar
