My system seems to hang when it gets to the "Power Down" line when shutting down. Why does my machine not power off automatically when I shut down?

If the machine halts at the point where it says "Power Down", then this behavior is normal and the machine is not hanging. At this point you need to power the machine down by pressing the power button. The kernel does not turn the power supply off.
