"cannot get list of tables" error when importing DV ODBC DSN into Excel or Access

Issue

  • Using the 64-bit PostGres 8.4 driver, and setup an ODBC connection / DSN in Windows 7. Testing the connection in ODBC datasource wizard works as expected, however, trying to use the datasource in Excel (2013) or Access results in this error:
"Unable to obtain list of tables from the data source"

Environment

  • Red Hat JBoss Data Virtualization (DV) 6.1
  • Windows 7 64 bit
  • Postgres 8.5 64 bit ODBC driver for DV
  • MS Office 2013 professional 64 bit
