What device name does Linux use for SCSI tape drives?

The device name used by Linux for most SCSI tape drives is usually
/dev/stX
, where X is the number for the tape drive. The
st
 stands for "SCSI tape".

If you have only one tape drive in your system, then it is normally referred to as
/dev/st0
