e1000 driver no longer working with an autonegotiate value (ETHTOOL_OPTS)

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • System hangs up when network services are restarted or that will hang during reboot and also not come up on the network if there are any of the following values in the ifcfg-eth0 file:
ETHTOOL_OPTS="autoneg on"
ETHTOOL_OPTS="autoneg off speed 100 duplex full"
ETHTOOL_OPTS="autoneg off speed 1000 duplex full"
  • Note that the behavior is that the system will hang during reboot. Even when there is no network connectivity, the system will eventually time out during the bring up of all network related services, and present a login prompt.
