'fence_node -S' powers off a node instead of performing a status in a RHEL 6 High Availability cluster

Issue

  • Doing some testing with RHEL High Availability and the VMware Fence for SOAP API only to find out the "-S" option to fence_node would result in no output, just a fence.
  • fence_node did not seem to respect the "-S" option
  • fence_node -S powers a node off instead of checking status

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6 with the High Availability Add On
  • One or more <fencedevice> definitions in /etc/cluster/cluster.conf that has action="off" or action="reboot" specified
    • NOTE: This problem is applicable only if this action attribute is in the <fencedevice/> element, not if it is specified in the <device/> element specific to the node
