What is the hardware certification and support status of Fujitsu Primergy TX120 S2?

Updated -

The LSI SAS3442E-R controller is available from Fujitsu as a Config To Order option, and is only supported for use with external Tape Backup devices. It is not supported to attach external storage of the type disk to the Fujitsu PRIMERGY TX120 S2.

The internal SATA controller of the Fujitsu PRIMERGY TX120 S2 is also not supported for attaching anything other than the internal Optical Drive.

This system is certified for use with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2 only in conjunction with the use of a Red Hat provided Driver Update Disk, available at the Partners FTP site:

For this system, e1000e-0.3.3.3_k4_i686.iso.gz and e1000e-0.3.3.3_k4_x86_64.iso.gz are the relevant DUD's.

As per certification policy, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 or later is covered by the certification and does not have the Driver Update Disk requirement. The reason is that the on-board network controller in the Fujitsu PRIMERGY TX120 S2 requires a later e1000e driver than the one provided in the standard Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2.

The DUD can be utilised during the installation by of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.2 by typing

linux dd=cdrom

at the boot prompt.
