Is it possible select and force the wireless connection to a particular frequency with NetworkManager in RHEL6 versions?

Issue

  • Our wireless AP emits both 5 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz signals with the same SSID (on different channels).
  • We have most of our RHEL machines connect to the 5 Ghz channels but some other RHELs don't.
  • How could we force to use the 5 Ghz channel instead of the 2.4 Ghz one?
  • Is it possible select and force the wireless connection to a particular frequency with NetworkManager in RHEL6 versions?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.4.
  • NetworkManager utility.
  • Wireless network adapter with dual radio band support (5 Ghz / 2.4 Ghz).
