Bind error: "dumping master file: slaves/tmp-EItAES6X3p: open: permission denied"

Issue

  • During doing a zone transfer between master and slave bind servers we received the following error messages in the /var/log/messages on the slave server:
./messages.1:Jun 21 20:55:14 station6 named[11532]: dumping master file: slaves/tmp-FvkXGhn6Jq: open: permission denied
./messages.1:Jun 21 20:55:14 station6 named[11532]: transfer of 'example.com/IN' from 192.168.0.5#53: failed while receiving responses: permission denied
./messages.1:Jun 21 20:56:00 station6 named[11532]: dumping master file: slaves/tmp-p5nVF49JHA: open: permission denied
./messages.1:Jun 21 20:56:00 station6 named[11532]: transfer of '0.168.192.in-addr.arpa/IN' from 192.168.0.5#53: failed while receiving responses: permission denied
./messages.1:Jun 21 20:56:12 station6 named[11532]: dumping master file: slaves/tmp-EItAES6X3p: open: permission denied
./messages.1:Jun 21 20:56:12 station6 named[11532]: transfer of 'example.com/IN' from 192.168.0.5#53: failed while receiving responses: permission denied
