“WARN [org.jgroups.protocols.pbcast.GMS] (main) join(<ip_1>:port) sent to <ip_2>:port timed out (after 3000 ms), retrying” cause JBoss hang on starting up

Issue

  • In a clustered JBoss environment, node1 with IP address ip_1, node2 with IP address ip_2. When restarting node1, it hangs on startup due to the following repeated WARN message:
2012-06-23 22:08:47,033 WARN  [org.jgroups.protocols.pbcast.GMS] (main) join(<ip_1>:55200) sent to <ip_2>:55200 timed out (after 3000 ms), retrying
  • node1 is restarted and cannot be join back.
