Why is there a new kernel boot menu entry "with debugging" in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • After updating to the kernel 3.10.0-229.1.2 I have two boot entries for this kernel. What's the meaning of the second entry with this debugging option?
# grep ^menuentr /etc/grub2.cfg | awk -F'--' '{print $1}'
menuentry 'Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (3.10.0-229.1.2.el7.x86_64) 7.1 (Maipo)'
menuentry 'Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (3.10.0-229.1.2.el7.x86_64) 7.1 (Maipo) with debugging'
  • Why is there a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (3.10.0-229.1.2.el7.x86_64) 7.1 (Maipo) with debugging menu entry added in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 ?
  • I would like to remove Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (3.10.0-229.1.2.el7.x86_64) 7.1 (Maipo) with debugging from the boot menu. How can I do this?
