ERROR: X-server backing store disabled. This will lead to graphical redraw problems.

Issue

• Unable to activate backing store feature in X server.
• Users are facing redraw problems with CAE Software(Provided by Mentor Graphics) in RHEL6.
• Backing store feature is enabled using xorg.conf, the log files are reporting that the feature is enabled:

  # grep -iE 'backing[ ]*store' /var/log/Xorg.0.log
  [ 32.054] () NOUVEAU(0): Option "BackingStore" "True"
  [ 32.054] () NOUVEAU(0): Backing store enabled

• But when users try to start the client application, they are getting following warning message and facing redraw problems:

  ERROR: X-server backing store disabled. This will lead to graphical redraw problems.

• Nouveau and Nvidia proprietary drivers were tried, but nothing has changed.
