chronyd reverses the system clock

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Can chronyd prevent the system clock from being stepped back for leap events?
  • I observed this behavior: chronyd reverses the system clock when all of the following conditions are met:
    • Using a timezone not supporting the leap second.
    • When the leap second is inserted to the reference clock for chrony.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
    • 7
    • 8
  • chrony
