Autofs behaves differently between RHEL 5 and 6

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

A NIS server exports multiple maps like the following:

$ ypcat -k auto.linux
/net/foo/ linux.foo
/net/bar/ linux.bar

$ ypcat -k linux.foo
a nfs-server:/work13/test1
b nfs-server:/work11/test2
c nfs-server:/work11/test3

$ ypcat -k linux.bar
v nfs-server:/work12/test4/v

When using autofs to auto-mount these NIS-exported maps a difference in behaviour between RHEL 5 and RHEL 6 is observed:
- RHEL 5: nfs-server:/work12/test4/v is mounted on /net/bar/v
- RHEL 6: nfs-server:/work12/test4/v is mounted on /net/bar/

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Autofs
  • NIS
