Failed CUPS polling generates overflow of error messages 'CUPS-Get-Printers failed: Forbidden' in RHEL

Issue

  • cups-polld attempts to retry around 60 times a second when print browsing access is restricted from a CUPS server through CUPS BrowsePoll functionality

  • Using the latest cups package (cups-1.4.2-67), my cups log file is filled (150 lines per second) with the following error:

    E [23/Feb/2015:08:46:25 +0100] [cups-polld XXX.XX.XX.X:631] CUPS-Get-Printers failed: Forbidden

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.6
  • Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) 1.4.2-67.el6
