Why mails are getting queue by sendmail as soon as it arrive?

Issue

  • Sendmail is configure to relay emails to the postfix gateway server. Sendmail has the relay server name (name to ip mapped in hosts file) configured in it sendmail.mc/cf files. Sendmail server does not have any valid or working dns server entry in resolv.conf.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 (All version)
  • Sendmail (configured relay server name in SMART_HOST which is mapped with ip in hosts file, not in DNS).
  • Postfix relay server
