ksh using typeset -Z gets unexpected results in RHEL5

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Unexpected results are returned from a ksh script when using typeset -Z.
  • Assigning a right-justified (typedef -R or -Z) variable to a smaller size may result in unexpected output. This is reproducible when the EDITOR environment variable is exported.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.6
  • ksh-20100621
