Does Red Hat supports multiscreen configuration with GNOME 3/4x?
Issue
- How to configure dual monitors with separate screens (e.g., :0.0 and :0.1) in
RHEL7,RHEL8,RHEL9orRHEL10? - GNOME desktop fails to render on second
X11screen(:0.1) when configured for two independent X screens. - When using two monitors as two independent
X11screens ($DISPLAY = :0.0 and :0.1, respectively; sometimes called "Zaphod mode"), GNOME seems to ignore the second screen completely. - GNOME desktop appears correctly on screen
:0.0, but screen:0.1is just a blank black canvas. If you force a window to the second monitor, it will render without any window manager decorations.
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7
