JON Agent fails to recognize JBoss EAP server failover by RedHat Cluster Suite

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • There are 2 JBoss EAP 5.1.2 servers running on two RedHat Linux machines. The servers are configured as Red Hat Cluster Services.
  • In case of failure the Red Hat Cluster Suite will re-locate the service to the other server. For example if EAP 1 server fails on Server 1 the Red Hat Cluster Suite will re-locate EAP 1 server to run on Server 2. The Virtual IP will remain the same but it will be bound to Server 2 now.
  • There are JON agents monitoring the EAP 1 and EAP 2 servers. The issue appears when EAP 1 or EAP 2 server re-locates to another server as described above. The JON agent does not seem to "understand" this situation and it shows the dead server still running on Server 1.

Environment

  • JBoss Operations Network (JON) 3.0
  • JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) 5.1.x
  • Red Hat Cluster Suite
