Red Hat Storage Server installation fails on HP SL4540 server with b120i SmartController

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • We are attempting to install RHS 2.1u1 on an HP SL4540 server. The controller for the RAID1 we are attempting to use is the SmartController b120i.
  • I see a knowledgebase article that says that there is a closed source driver and that for installation we need to essentially disable the smart controller by going into the system configuration and enable AHCI.
  • This isn't going to work because it doesn't allow the hardware RAID1 we want. HP does provide a driver, but I see no way of providing this driver to the installer during installation so that the installer uses it.
  • How can I do this? In the absence of doing this, the installer does completely, but it doesn't properly recognize the RAID1 array and the system is not bootable.
