Why is the first hop reported by traceroute not the expected first hop such as the host's default gateway?
Issue
- The output of a
traceroutetest does not show the default gateway as the first hop. There are no other static routes on the system. - Is there something in
traceroutethat is causing the default gateway to not be reported in the output? If so, how can this be changed? - Is the
tracerouteprogram is reliable to validate the first-hop in route?
