Why cron daemon sends error message '/var/run/pcp/pmlogger_daily.pid: No such file or directory' to '/var/mail/pcp' in RHEL 7?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • Cron daemon throws error message /var/run/pcp/pmlogger_daily.pid: No such file or directory to /var/mail/pcp .
  • These message generated by /etc/cron.d/pcp-pmlogger script.
  • /etc/cron.d/pcp-pmlogger should not log errors in /var/mail/pcp as pcp service is not running on system.
  • Below error message sent by cron service.
/usr/libexec/pcp/bin/pmlogger_daily: line 365: /var/run/pcp/pmlogger_daily.pid: No such file or directory
  • pcp mails /var/mail/pcp give below errors.
mkdir: cannot create directory '/var/run/pcp': Permission denied
chown: cannot access '/var/run/pcp': No such file or directory
/usr/libexec/pcp/bin/pmlogger_daily: line 393: /var/run/pcp/pmlogger_daily.pid: No such file or directory
