Why is rpc.svcgssd not starting with message 'do you have a keytab entry for nfs/<your.host>@<YOUR.REALM> in /etc/krb5.keytab' ?

Issue

  • I want to setup secured/kerberized nfs, why is gssd not starting?
  • When executing service nfs start I see that RPC svcgssd is not starting.
  • When executing service rpcsvcgssd start I see that RPC svcgssd is not starting.
  • Why is rpc.svcgssd not starting with the following message?
rpc.svcgssd[25]: ERROR: GSS-API: error in gss_acquire_cred(): Unspecified GSS failure.  Minor code may provide more information - No principal in keytab matches desired name
rpc.svcgssd[25]: unable to obtain root (machine) credentials
rpc.svcgssd[25]: do you have a keytab entry for nfs/<your.host>@<YOUR.REALM> in /etc/krb5.keytab?

  • NFSv4
  • Kerberos
