Red Hat Training

A Red Hat training course is available for Red Hat JBoss Data Virtualization

Chapter 2. Some Key Terms Used Throughout this Document

2.1. Data Federation

The Data Federation example demonstrates the ability of JBoss Data Virtualization to integrate multiple data sources so that a single query can return results from one or more data sources. This makes data integration of new sources easier without having to expose any new access details.

Note

All the code discussed in this example is available in the dynamicvdb-datafederation quickstart. See the EAP_HOME/quickstarts/dynamicvdb-datafederation/README.md for directions to run the quickstart.
In this example, two different data sources are used:
  • Account information, stored in H2 database
  • Market Data (stock prices) stored in CSV text file
DynamicPortfolio VDB will define a model for each data source. Since VDB is deployed to JBoss Data Virtualization, it is accessible to the user application using JDBC. When the test query is executed that joins data from the Accounts and MarketData models, JBoss Data Virtualization will access both, the relational and non-relational sources, calculate the portfolio values, and return the results.
