No "proper" video / screen in VM under ESXi on RPi 4

On a Raspberry Pi 4 I have ESXi running, and I installed RHEL 9.4 using console=ttyS0 as part of the boot options.

Fully up and running, connecting to ttyS0 (virtual serial port on VM)

VM Screen / Monitor. grub boot menu appears first, then this

On Centos 8 Stream, at the end of the boot process it did show the login prompt, but not the output from the boot sequence. On RHEL9 there is no output at all after grub has done its thing.

Any ideas?
