symlinks within custom rules file in /etc/fapolicyd/rules.d don't seem to work

In RHEL 8.8, should symlinks in paths within custom rules files in /etc/fapolicyd/rules.d work? When I put in full actual paths for Java executables and libraries for fapolicyd allow rules, these work. However, when I try to use symlinks for these paths, I start getting deny errors. Since we update Java frequently and the path changes, which requires us to update these rules each time, it would be nice to be able to use symlinks.
