gnome-terminal hangs on start after changing locale

In RHEL9 I changed the locale from de_DE to en_US.
After that gnome-terminal hangs on start in my x-terminal.
I changed back to de_De. Same issue.
I uninstalled gnome-terminal and reinstalled. Same issue.
I installed KDE-terminal, which is fine and working.
Anybody with any idea why the gnome-terminal hangs?
