Redhat version of "oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall" for RHEL 6 (and not using the Oracle repo)?

Latest response

The Oracle public repository has a RPM that preps a machine for the database software - tweeks the tunables, sets up users, downloades dependencies, etc.

Alas, the only way to get this package is to point to the Oracle public repositories - which I assume will effect our RH support. (Can anyone verify this support issue?)

Does Redhat have any plans on building such a package? The document Oracle Database 11g Release 2 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 details everything that is recomended prior to installing the database - so it would basically be turning chapter 4 into an RPM.

Thanks,

Hi Steve,

I'm not familiar with the preinstall RPM, but as long as the RPM does not replace any currently installed Red Hat-signed packages, Red Hat would provide commerially reasonable support given all that's changed/added are Oracle-specific packages. Red Hat does not plan on building such a package, but if a support case does require attention from Oracle, Red Hat would be happy to include them as well to help diagnose the issue.

Hope this helps!

Hi Steve,

I would prefer a kcikstart file, because if you refer to rpm's need to be maintained by Red Hat or Oracle and kickstart files are easy to be updated by the sysadmin him/herself.

Hi, guys!
Here there is a script that checks all prerequisites packages for an Oracle database and generates yum command for missing ones. It supports different versions of RedHat releases and Oracle database versions
     The post http://dbpilot.net/2018/01/31/installing-oracle-prerequisite-packages-for-oracle-database/
The script dbs_prepkgs.sh [ if link is broken then the script can be downloaded directly from the post]
Issue dos2unix command on the script before you use the script.
The dbs_prepkgs.sh is analog of oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall.x86_64 and oracle-rdbms-server-12cR1-preinstall.x86_64 packages.
